Newcastle CONFIRM Alexander Isak is leaving

Liverpool have wanted a striker ever since Darwin Nunez entered the door. The preceding three years have shown that the position has still yet to be filled adequately.

Thinking back to 2022, Diogo Jota was the main forward asset for the Reds, although he wasn't your traditional poacher in front of goal, a world class talisman as it were.

However, despite feeling convinced enough at the time that the Uruguayan would be the perfect man to solve the issue, as the club spent £85m on him, the move has not panned out.

Looking back now in 2025, Nunez has 40 goals and 22 assists to his name from 136 appearances, missing 75 big chances in that time. In addition, Jota's impact in front of goal has slowly declined, making it clear and obvious to everyone connected to the club that a new striker is necessary.

Alexander Isak is the club's main priority target, despite his enormous price tag, and while speculation over a move has been rife over the last few months, it finally seems as though things are falling into place for a move to Liverpool to become a reality.

Newcastle prepare for life without Isak with striker approach

The Magpies are unlikely to willingly let their star Swedish talisman go out the door without a concrete plan in place to identify a possible successor.

As such, the latest report from Calcio Mercato should come as no surprise. Moise Kean at Fiorentina has been contacted by Newcastle over a potential move and that is the surest sign yet that Isak could be let go by the club in the summer.

Even more promising is the detail that the Tyneside club are the only club that has made the first direct contact with the player's agents, anticipating the competition from Arsenal and Tottenham, who are also interested in the Italian.

A club that is unwilling to consider selling their star striker is unlikely to make such moves for a player they don't need, so perhaps Liverpool have a slight opening that they could explore.

Of course, Liverpool have not quite yet put all their eggs in one basket when it comes to the striker position.

Anfield Watch previously revealed that talks have started taking place with Huge Ekitike. Furthermore, Joao Pedro is another potentially viable option for the Reds to consider.

Given the ÂŁ100m+ price tag on Isak's head, and the sheer scale of the task ahead of Liverpool's recruitment team, due consideration is required before such a significant outlay of cash for one player is signed off on.

But if Newcastle are willing to let him go, which it seems as though there are given their interest in new striker targets, then Liverpool cannot afford to let the opportunity to sign him pass them by.

Nonsense headline- Newcastle need a second striker because Callum Wilson is out of contract this summer and he’s unlikely to be offered a new one.

Absolute tosh. Isak is not leaving NUFC, Wilson is. Desperate presumptuous bullsh*t lads, really give up on this story and also “journalism” while you’re at it.
