Two Liverpool icons told they'll NEVER play for the club again
Liverpool have garnered a reputation for developing elite young talents over the past decade.

Loans have been a huge part of the way Liverpool have nurtured their academy players, with some current first-team stars such as Harvey Elliott and Conor Bradley having enjoyed successful loan spells away from the club.

Arne Slot's side has some impressive talent out on loan this season too, with Ben Doak and Lewis Koumas impressing in the English second division, and Jayden Danns joining them just before the January transfer deadline.
Although going out on loan has been shown to be a clear way into the first team at Anfield, there are of course examples where a loan move has effectively signalled the end of a player’s time at Liverpool.
This could be the case for two of the Reds’ current loanees, who have been told they’ll probably never play for the club again.
Two former stars ‘highly unlikely' to feature for Liverpool again
Football is a harsh game and sometimes decisions have to be made that not everyone will like.
It seems that this summer such a decision could be made about the future of two former Liverpool heroes.
According to a report by James Pearce of The Athletic, departures for Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams are on the cards this summer, with the pair “highly unlikely to play for the club again”.
Phillips is currently plying his trade for Derby County in the Championship whilst his former partner Williams is turning out for Morecambe, who find themselves in a League Two relegation battle.
The pair have made 29 and 19 appearances respectively for Liverpool’s senior team, both contributing to the Reds’ late push for Champions League qualification in the 2020/21 season.
Phillips and Williams’ legacy at Anfield
The duo earned the affection of the Anfield faithful in 2021, when Jurgen Klopp’s side were left with no healthy central defenders as an injury crisis struck the reigning Premier League champions.
Both Phillips and Williams showed their dedication to the club by stepping up and helping Klopp’s side to a third-place finish, securing Champions League football for the following season on the final day of the campaign.

Liverpool have come a long way since then however and, although the duo may have obtained cult-hero status in Merseyside, Phillips and Williams may never be seen representing Liverpool again.
