Liverpool flop Naby Keita is in talks to move away from the Bundesliga after a disastrous first season at Werder Bremen.

Keita joined the German side in the summer of 2023, a move that was seen as an opportunity for the midfielder to rejuvenate his career after a mixed stint on Merseyside.

However his issues seemed to follow him over to Germany. The Guinean international made just five appearances for Bremen after struggling with injury.

The 29-year-old was also suspended for part of the season after the club has claimed the midfielder refused to travel with the team for a Bundesliga fixture against champions Bayer Leverkusen when he learned that he wouldn’t be part of the starting line up.

Keita in talks with Turkish club

According to Ed Aarons from The Guardian, Keita is in talks with Turkish Super Lig club Istanbul Basaksehir over a potential move.

The journalist also confirmed that their was interest from Championship side Sunderland who planned to lure the midfielder back to England with an outlandish deal.

However, Regis Le Bris’ side were unable to come to an agreement to bring the player to Wearside.

The transfer window in Turkey does not close until September 13, meaning that there is still plenty of time for Keita to potentially seal an exit from the Bundesliga side.

For Keita, the next move will be crucial in determining the trajectory of his career. At 29, he still has time to rediscover his best form, but he will need to find a club that can provide the right environment for him to thrive.
