Liverpool have performed brilliantly this season, largely with the same squad of players left to Arne Slot by Jurgen Klopp.

The likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones in midfield have really stepped up their games, becoming established members of the first team and for their countries respectively.

But Liverpool’s midfield wears quite thin beneath the first four picks. Gravenberch and Jones are among FOUR midfielders who have been heavily utilised so far this season alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Others - such as Wataru Endo and Tyler Morton - have been used sparingly while Harvey Elliott has yet to make a big impact following his injury.

It’s no secret that Liverpool were planning to restock the midfield last summer with Martin Zubimendi identified as the prime target. However, he opted to remain with Real Sociedad despite the Reds triggering the release clause in his contract.

Nico Gonzalez and Samuele Ricci are in Liverpool’s sights while another exciting attacking midfielder is now on the club’s radar.

'Excellent' Gibbs-White wanted by Liverpool

Morgan Gibbs-White has been one of the stars of the Premier League season. The 24-year-old is the driving force in Nottingham Forest’s midfield, helping Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to second place in the Premier League.

The England international was outstanding at Anfield earlier this term when Forest handed Slot his only defeat as Liverpool head coach and has been described as 'brilliant' and 'creative' by former England interim head coach Lee Carsley.

Now Football Insider claims the Reds have got ‘concrete interest’ in Gibbs-White for January and beyond. Having joined Forest for initial £25m - plus another £17m in add-ons - from Wolves back in 2022, Gibbs-White is under contract until 2027.

That means if no new deal is agreed at the City Ground then the Tricky Trees could be forced to face a sale next summer or beyond.

The publication claims Forest are expected to bat back any attempts to prise the two-cap England man away in January but could be powerless to prevent from Liverpool snaring him next summer.

With Alexis Mac Allister the subject of transfer rumours out of Madrid, there could be changes not only in Liverpool’s No.6 position but also further forward.
