One of the masterminds behind their success is attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, who has come into his own this season.
So while Liverpool might be relatively content with their midfield pack, a former transfer link is making a statement that might become too big to ignore when it comes to the summer transfer window.
Liverpool to bring in a classic No. 10
By signing Dominik Szoboszlai two seasons ago, Liverpool had brought in a player who could potentially fill the hole left by Philippe Coutinho back in 2018.
His ability to play as a No. 8 was clear, but his attacking presence brought something new to the Reds, allowing the club to utilise him in a number of different ways - be it playing as a winger, or an attacking midfielder.
However, while his displays in a red shirt have been impressive, and he works tirelessly off the ball, he has failed to bring the attacking returns that you would expect from a player in his position.
Morgan Gibbs-White at Nottingham Forest, however, is doing all the right things, and so speculation has arisen that Liverpool might be looking to bring the Englishman to the club to add that missing dimension to their midfield.
Football Insider reported in January that Mick Brown, a former top-level Premier League scout, believed that Liverpool had an interest in Gibbs-White.
He said: "Liverpool are very interested in making a move to sign him, and I can think of plenty of other teams keeping an eye on his progress as well.
“He would step in there and be a real asset to that side."
So while it is impossible that Liverpool can sign him this transfer window, given the limited time available and Forest's reluctance to let him go mid-way through such an impressive season, his performances are making a statement that Liverpool will undoubtedly be mulling over when it comes to the summer window.
Gibbs-White's emphatic Premier League season
In Forest's contest against Brighton on Saturday afternoon, Gibbs-White was rampant in midfield.
He created a chance, scored one himself and won three out of three tackles, in addition to dominating seven of his nine duels, all in the first half.
And his second-half efforts have been no less impressive, winning a penalty for Chris Wood to score the hosts' fifth goal of the match.
His efforts this season have been littered with performances that are clear examples of how good he can be when he's at his top level.
Across the last 10 games that he has played, he has notched a goal or an assist in eight of them.
in comparison, Dominik Szoboszlai has notched four goals and three assists across all competitions for the entire season so far.
While Gibbs-White plays in a team that has less of the ball in games, compared to Szoboszlai at Liverpool, the England international is doing more with his opportunities to impact the game than the Hungarian.
Now, of course, the two player's profiles are different and it is clear that Liverpool gets plenty from Szoboszlai's presence when he isn't contributing to goals - he is a workhorse that Liverpool fans adore.
But, if a new attacking outlet is something the club is after, then there are few better-suited players to look at than Gibbs-White, and given Szoboszlai's versatility, a move would not necessarily mark the end of his time at Anfield.
