Liverpool have started the season brilliantly under new head coach Arne Slot and the Reds currently sit top of the Premier League.

Slot’s side have also won their opening two games in the UEFA Champions League and enjoyed a successful start to their Carabao Cup defence against West Ham United.

A lot of the praise aimed at the new Liverpool boss has centred around his work in improving the Reds’ defensive record but he also has his side firing in front of goal.

Both Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz have been in red-hot form so far this campaign and the pair have showed little sign of slowing down.

Mo Salah’s contract situation

The dark cloud sitting over Salah’s impressive start to 2024/25 is the fact that his contract is set to expire in less than a year and this means the Egyptian could leave Anfield for free at the end of the season.

Already there has been a huge amount of speculation around the Egyptian King’s future, fuelled further by the star admitting this could be his last campaign for Liverpool.

Now, according to TBR Football, a surprise contender has emerged for Salah’s signature should he leave Liverpool at the expiry of his contract.

According to the report, new Major League Soccer side San Diego FC are planning an ambitious move that would see Salah playing his football in California from 2025.

The team will begin playing in the MLS next year and are the most expensive franchise in the league’s history.

Could Salah really end up in the MLS?

Although Salah is reportedly a top target for Saudi Pro League teams, who will undoubtedly be able to offer a bigger financial package than any other team, San Diego FC may have a secret weapon in their pursuit of the Egyptian King.

The team’s owner, Sir Mohamed Mansour, is an Egyptian-born billionaire who is hoping to lean on his links in Egypt to help secure Salah’s signature, according to TBR Football.

A move to Saudi Arabia could bring record-breaking wages for Salah, but San Diego’s ambitious interest could persuade the 32-year-old to switch to the MLS instead

The new franchise have already announced a deal for Hirving Lozano and are also reportedly long-time admirers of Kevin De Bruyne.

Liverpool supporters will be hoping to see Salah extend his stay on Merseyside and, with interest from all around the globe, they will want a contract extension sorted sooner rather than later.

Talks for a new deal are reportedly set to take place soon but the Anfield faithful may be starting to worry that their talisman’s head could be turned, whether it be by San Diego or Saudi Arabia.
