It's a 'surprise' Liverpool DIDN'T sign 'brilliant' star to replace Mo Salah - now it's too late
Liverpool have not hesitated to spend big to secure top talent from other Premier League clubs, with Virgil van Dijk standing out as a prime example of such an investment paying off.
Recently, however, the Merseyside club has turned its attention to more cost-effective options from European leagues, as negotiating within the Premier League has become increasingly challenging.
Players who are proven performers in England often see their price tag increased and can be become a popular target for numerous clubs making the competition for signatures increasingly more difficult.

Liverpool should have signed Olise
One player who was hot on the market in the summer was Michael Olise. The Frenchman was linked to several clubs in England but ended up opting for a £50m move from Crystal Palace to Bayern Munich.
The Reds had their eye on the 22-year-old but ultimately decided against pursuing the due to the complex release clause in his Palace contract which was worth £60m with the sale divided up between Palace, Olise himself and another of his former clubs Reading.
However, Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann believes Liverpool should've done more to bring the player to Merseyside. "I'm very surprised no one picked him up in England, if anyone was to replace Mohamed Salah, it would be Michael Olise." Hamann told Flashscore.
Should Liverpool re-consider?
"He's a brilliant player, he can score goals and create. Bayern won't want to lose Olise, but I won't be surprised if teams like Liverpool or Manchester United offer a big fee for him" added Hamann.
Olise has had a brilliant start to life at Bayern, scoring four goals and getting two assists in the Bundesliga already this season. If Salah had chosen to leave in the summer, the Reds would have probably kicked themselves for not bringing Olise to Anfield. Luckily the Egyptian forward chose to stay.
It was definitely worth keeping Salah who is flying for the Reds this season, racking up 14 goal contributions across all competitions so far and becoming joint ninth in the all-time PL goal-scorers list.
