When Mo Salah said that it was his ‘last year at the club’ after the 3-0 demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford last month there was almost a complete meltdown in the Liverpool fandom.

Head coach Arne Slot has been asked about Salah’s contract status in basically every interview or press conference has has undertaken since then, and is visibly getting tired of it.

It’s understandable why journalists and fans alike would want constant updates on Salah’s contract status. Not only has he been one of the best attackers in the entire world for the past near-decade but he continues to be Liverpool’s essential marksman.

His involvements against Chelsea yesterday took him to seven goals and six assists in Liverpool’s 11 games in all competitions so far this season.

What contract does Salah want?

Football Insider are now reporting that Salah is looking to secure a ‘massive’ new three year contract that runs through until 2027.

The report states that Liverpool believe remaining at the club is Salah’s first choice, regardless of any offer that could come from Saudi Arabia and their unlimited wage fund.

A three-year contract would see Salah remain at the club until he is 35-years old. The argument for letting him go is mainly based around his age and the prediction that his performances will start to diminish the further he gets into his thirties.

Yet with his immaculate physical condition there is no reason to believe that he couldn’t sustain a starting level for all of those years, especially if Liverpool bring in replacement candidates to learn from and add goal involvements alongside him.

The report also states that Liverpool are unconcerned by reports that Salah has already agreed terms with a Saudi club, as initially reported by Gabby Agbonlahor on talkSPORT.

If Salah is willing to make a deal with Liverpool work then that will be a seismic domino in the trifecta of contracts that are hanging over the club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk can then be focused on, as could any backup plans in their positions.
