Liverpool may well be soon in the hunt for a Mohamed Salah replacement as the Egyptian’s time at the club looks to be coming to an abrupt end.

The Reds and Salah’s entourage have yet to come to any kind of agreement over a new deal with the 32-year-old now free to speak to potentially interested overseas clubs about a pre-contract arrangement.

Al-Hilal are now foremost among Salah’s suitors and it would appear the Saudi Pro League giants are growing confident about their chances of landing him on a blockbuster contract.

And while most Liverpool fans would dearly love Mo to sign a new deal - whatever the cost - it’s clearly not seen the same way at FSG.

In fact it’s more likely right now that they wave Salah off at the end of eight glorious years of services which have seen him win truckloads of individual awards as well as the biggest team prizes.

If Salah leaves he will leave a huge gap not only in the hearts and minds of Reds around the world but more pressingly in Arne Slot’s starting lineup.

No player has done more to carry the goalscoring and creative burden than Salah this season, demonstrating again why age is just a number. He has plundered 18 in the Premier League alone - and added 13 assists - and is operating at a level that must be considered the best in the world on current form.

Why Liverpool should move for Mbeumo

Succeeding Salah will be no easy task for FSG and sporting director Richard Hughes but this weekend they will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with one potential replacement.

Bryan Mbeumo has quietly gone about his business as one of the Premier League’s most consistent forwards over the past few seasons. The 25-year-old Brentford star has scored 35 Premier League goals and added 24 assists across his 119 appearances at this level.

Now those might not be Salah-like numbers but doing it for Liverpool and having to do it for a team with far less possession like the Bees is another thing altogether.

The French-born Cameroon international’s form and consistency have brought him to the attention of the league’s top sides with Arsenal, Newcastle and the Reds all credited with interest according to GIVEMESPORT.

It’s not the first time Mbeumo has crossed Liverpool’s radar as reports last summer suggested he might be the subject of a £50m bid from Anfield.

And if it comes down to Mbeumo's choice, why wouldn't he choose Slot's high-flyers over Mikel Arteta's dead-ball specialists? In any case they are reported to want him as a Bukayo Saka injury replacement this January whereas Liverpool's plan would be far more long-term.

Liverpool CANNOT AFFORD not to get a deal done

He ultimately stayed put but the West London side will soon have a decision to make if they cannot get the left-footer to agree a new contract. Mbeumo is out of contract in summer 2026, although Brentford retain a one-year option to extend it.

Either way, the time to cash in on Mbeumo is surely approaching - as it did with Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney before him. And in his Premier League performances to date, Mbeumo has given the assurance that he has the potential to move to Anfield.

He is a goalscorer, a creator and a willing worker. Moreover he is proven at this level. Mbeumo is an exquisite ball-carrier and can dribble at pace. He often leads Thomas Frank's side out of their own half on the counter-attack and possesses a wand of a left foot. Witness his volley against Tottenham earlier this season for evidence of that.

His 13 goals thus far this season represent his best-ever top-flight total and he appears to be a man coming into his peak.

Any Liverpool fan who quite enjoys the sight of Salah running down the wing before cutting inside and striking at goal will definitely get a kick out of Mbeumo.

If he is available the Reds cannot afford to miss the opportunity to get a deal done.

Liverpool sent two players to Brentford last summer in the shape of Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg. Overall Liverpool banked around £52.5m for the pair - not too far off the now-quoted asking price of £60m for Mbeumo.

Two fringe players out, and one potential Salah replacement in? That sounds like the perfect trade-off.
