While Reds all around the world wait for the announcement that Mo Salah has renewed his contract with Liverpool, other clubs are doing their utmost to lure him elsewhere.

The interest from the Public Investment Fund-owned teams in Saudi Arabia has been well established, with a rumoured offer of more than Cristiano Ronaldo’s £3m+ per-week.

And a more recent emergence has been that of French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), whose ownership by the Qatari state and the rivalry with the Saudi’s can’t be understated.

As revealed last week by respected French journalist Romain Collet Gaudin and reported on by Anfield Watch, PSG reportedly offered Salah a three-year contract worth €500,000 per week (around £418k), also claiming that it beats the €400,000 that Liverpool have offered him.

The €400,000 would come close to the £350,000 that Salah currently earns at Liverpool.

PSG boss Luis Enrique speaks on Salah deal

PSG head coach Luis Enrique was pressed on this in a press conference for the Ligue 1 game versus Monaco this week, according to Masrawy. When asked: “Is Mohamed Salah really close to Paris Saint-Germain?”, he replied: “I am not talking about players who are not on my team.”

It is an alarmingly defensive response in regards to what would be a seismic deal that would shake up European football considerably. PSG top Ligue 1 at time of writing, as has become customary, but the season-on-season departures of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have left them without any real star quality.

Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola now lead their front line but this is a shadow of the star power the side have become accustomed to. As a result, a move for Salah would put them right back to the front of European football’s box office.

Enrique’s response was respectful enough to Liverpool, ensuring he doesn’t put a foot wrong as PSG continue to try and secure Salah’s services. But the insinuation that Salah could soon be a player on his team that he can talk about is worrying, particularly if Liverpool aren’t offering Salah a pay rise.

In the face of huge offers from PSG and the Saudi clubs, Liverpool need to play their hand perfectly to ensure the world’s best player remains where he wants to be.
