Liverpool are set for a summer transfer shakeup in the striking department. Several first-team stars could be cleared out in order to make way for new options up top.

Diogo Jota is chief among the candidates to be sold with Arne Slot counting the cost of the Portugal forward’s frequent injury troubles.

Mohamed Salah is out of contract in summer 2025 and could well need to be replaced. Federico Chiesa, too, could be sacrificed with plenty of interest in his services from Italy.

Luis Diaz is involved in a high-profile contract standoff with the club and, with his current deal expiring in 2027, he could well be sold sooner rather than later.

There’s been huge uncertainty over Darwin Nunez too with the Uruguayan close to leaving the club during the January transfer window.

Salah on Darwin: We need him

Al Hilal and Al Nassr were both interested in adding the 25-year-old but neither Saudi Pro League side ultimately met Liverpool’s asking price.

The Reds were also reported to be concerned about sourcing a replacement in winter and were therefore reluctant to part ways.

Nunez made a big impact against Southampton during Liverpool’s 3-1 Premier League win on Saturday. He scored to get the side level and also won the penalty which permitted Salah to slot the Reds ahead.

And the Egyptian, who has previously endorsed his strike partner in public, reiterated his support for Nunez following the game.

This season in the league, Nunez has got five goals and two assists in just under 1,000 minutes. Not always a starter, Nunez is nonetheless one of the most impactful players at the club.

“He is a very important player for us,” Salah said. “I’m always there talking to him. He is very important, we need him.

“And you saw him also in the last game against PSG, he was very important when he came in, making a difference. Good for him.”

He is under contract at Anfield until 2028 and it would take a sizeable bid to move him. Liverpool will no doubt be hoping that he can find the net on a regular basis, increase his confidence and help the club to the title.
