At 32, he is playing his best football ever; Salah has scored 20 goals and added 17 assists in 26 games overall this season. His form means Liverpool fans are clamouring to see him signed up for an extended contract, with his current terms expiring in summer 2025.

However both Salah and the club are involved in a game of high-stakes poker currently with neither side backing down. It is believed Salah wants to stay at the club in order to break records and compete for trophies but Liverpool will only permit him to do so on their terms.

Should no compromise be reached then Salah could well end up at Paris Saint-Germain or in Saudi Arabia.

It was described as sporting director Richard Hughes’ priority to sort out Salah’s contract ahead of the January transfer window, along with those of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.

But we are now into the new year with no deals in sight and all three are now entitled to discuss pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs.

Could Liverpool MISS OUT on Marmoush?

Liverpool will still attempt to bring Salah to the table however with the January 1 deadline seen inside the club as largely symbolic.

But with Hughes busy on other projects it could mean Liverpool LOSE OUT on a potential Salah replacement and a player who comes with the endorsement of the two-time African player of the year.

Liverpool’s recruitment team are impressed by Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush and the versatile Egypt international has been seen as a viable transfer for the club.

The 25-year-old is putting up Salah-like numbers this season - 18 goals and 12 assists in 24 games - and has attracted the attention of plenty of Premier League suitors.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa have all been linked with his signature in a new report by GIVEMESPORT but it’s now believed Arsenal could jump the queue ahead of the Reds for Marmoush in January.

Frankfurt want to keep him at the club until the end of the season but would accept a bid of £50m for their star forward, who may well have his head turned by interest this winter.

The Reds' sporting director's head will be elsewhere and It is expected to permit Mikel Arteta’s side to wrap up the signing instead.

Liverpool are NOT expected to add players this winter and therefore might have to sit it out while Marmoush seals a deal at the Emirates.

Overseas competition could come from PSG or AC Milan, meanwhile, with Marmoush now seemingly destined for a European giant.

Under contract until 2027, Frankfurt are in now rush to sell him. However, the time might be right to cash in with his value high and interest from so many clubs.
