Liverpool Transfers: It's Lamine Yamal or Bukayo Saka or FAILURE
Liverpool can sign Lamine Yamal or Bukayo Saka - or accept failure. They're heading into the unknown.
Liverpool have some incredible decisions to make in 2025. They had some incredible ones to make in 2024, to be fair, what with Jurgen Klopp leaving and causing chaos.

Importantly, Liverpool got those decisions right. Arne Slot was absolutely the right man for the job. The decision not to pursue an alternative to top-target Martin Zubimendi was also correct - it's allowed Ryan Gravenberch to flourish.
But this summer, the decisions on playing staff are almighty. Bigger than ever. They'll reshape everything.
Part of that is because Liverpool are planning a summer overhaul of their attack, as revealed by Anfield Watch. Another, though, is the contracts.
Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all on expiring deals. As things stand, they'll depart this summer for pastures new. There are different feelings about all three.

Alexander-Arnold, for instance, feels out of control. Liverpool don't want to lose him but Real Madrid appear to have turned his head. The Reds can't do much about it.
Van Dijk just feels like a relatively safe one. There isn't too much panic about him leaving Anfield and Anfield Watch still understands he's staying.
And then there's Salah.
Mo Salah is irreplaceable
Here's the panic. Salah is the best player on the planet right now, leading the Premier League for both goals and assists.
And yet, Liverpool aren't giving him what he wants. That's right, the world's best player is desperate to play for the Reds and they're not snapping him up.
That's never happened before. There is no point in history where the world's best actively wanted to play for Liverpool.
And so, understandably, the fans don't understand.
There is no replacement here. If Salah leaves, Liverpool simply get worse because the list of potential replacements simply isn't very good.
And why would it be?! Salah is the best in the world right now and it's impossible to replace him like-for-like.

The only way to win fans around here and avoid the carnage that comes with letting Salah leave is to replace him with a plan everyone can understand. It's one of the reasons everyone is a bit calmer about Alexander-Arnold leaving: Conor Bradley is waiting in the wings and he's absolutely immense.
Liverpool could do something similar by having the next-big-thing arriving to replace Salah. That would be one of the other two outstanding - and far younger - right-wingers.
Bukayo Saka of Arsenal or Lamine Yamal of Barcelona. Those are the two. Anything short of that and Liverpool aren't going to win the fans over here.
But Liverpool also aren't going to sign either of them. They'd love to - Saka has had admirers at Anfield for years, back when he was a young left-back hoping to break in at Arsenal. The Gunners, however, aren't selling him to Liverpool for any money.

As for Yamal, Liverpool are watching that situation closely but they're certainly not signing him this summer. Any race to get him would be so expensive that we can't imagine the Reds would have a chance.
So all of this is to say that Liverpool letting Salah go is madness. There are precisely two players who could save the situation but neither are joining as the Egyptian's replacement.
The solution, then? Just re-sign him. The chances of Salah putting in three elite years at Liverpool are higher than any possible signing. Take the chance because anyone else is a far bigger risk.
