Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future appears far from certain this week. Transfer talk around a potential move to Saudi Arabia has intensified over the past few days.

Reports from the Kingdom as well have Spain suggest that a move to Al-Hilal is a done deal for summer 2025. Salah, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season and despite a willingness to remain at Anfield there has been no breakthrough in negotiations over a new deal.

The Egyptian forward was at one stage reported to be open to a one-year extension in order to stay at Liverpool, where he has played since 2017. However, FSG and sporting director Richard Hughes have not been able to come to a new arrangement with Salah.

Liverpool’s top scorer is in the form of his life and has wasted no opportunity to remind the club that he has entered the final stages of his Reds contract whenever queried about it in the media. It is a carefully calculated game from Salah but it would now appear he is running out of road at Anfield.

While Paris Saint-Germain are reported to have offered a mammoth deal to him, interest from Saudi Arabia looks more secure at this stage. Al-Ittihad were close to adding Salah to the ranks back in the summer of 2023 but Liverpool ultimately refused to deal.

Turki Alalshikh hints at Salah - Saudi deal

The man who revealed the extent of Saudi Salah interest last year - Turki Alalshikh - has now sent the rumour mill into overdrive thanks to his latest social media post.

Alalshikh, 43, has gained worldwide renown over the past few years as Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, making some of the biggest boxing matches on the planet as part of Riyadh Season. He also oversaw the construction of Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena, which is currently Al-Hilal’s home stadium.

And it was Al-Hilal most closely associated with a move for Salah this week with reports claiming coach Jorge Jesus wanted to add the forward as a replacement for Neymar before the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. A transfer to Al-Hilal could see Salah link up with current Liverpool teammate Darwin Nunez, who Anfield Watch revealed was a key target.

Alalshikh took things one step further on Wednesday, posting a mocked-up image of Salah in an Al-Hilal kit to his 15 million Facebook followers.

Not much happens in sport in Saudi Arabia without Turki Alalshikh’s approval and this could be seen as a sign of a breakthrough in the Saudi Pro League giants’ attempts to entice Salah away from Liverpool at the end of his contract.
