Liverpool and Mohamed Salah are at odds in the latest contract negotiations.

Both parties want the same result, for the Egyptian to remain on Merseyside, but unless something dramatically changes in the upcoming months, the Reds are at risk of losing him.

Since the January 1 deadline passed, Salah is allowed to talk to other clubs about a future move, but he is incessant on trying to remain at Liverpool for the remainder of his career. It is believed that his correspondence with the media is a strategy to put pressure on the club to sort out an agreement.

However, as of yet, nothing has changed and by June 1, Salah is going to become a free agent, able to leave the club and join whoever he wants. According to the latest reports coming out of Saudi Arabia, his likely destination is going to be the Middle East.

'Salah will be a player for Al Hilal' - claims Saudi reports

Mohamed Al-Sheikh - an official spokesperson for the Saudi Football Association - has been speaking to YSScores about the possibility of bringing Salah to Saudi Arabia.

Through a series of statements on the 'Action with Walid' program, he said: "Mohamed Salah is on the verge of joining Al Hilal, and Al Hilal also aims to include Lamine Yamal, the Barcelona star, and Vinicius, the Real Madrid star.

"Whoever brought Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Neymar is targeting Lamine Yamal, and this is not surprising.

"Salah will be a player for Al Hilal, but not in the current transfer period, but in the next summer transfer period, because Al Hilal will not pay Liverpool to buy out the remaining value of the contract.

Salah at a 'dead end' with Liverpool

"Salah has reached a dead end with Liverpool regarding renewing his contract, and he also wants to play for Al Hilal because it is the best Saudi and Asian club," the quotes conclude.

The notion that Salah may end up playing in the Saudi Pro League is nothing new, the competition has been keen to bring top stars over to headline their domestic football. Likewise, Al Hilal were always considered to be the club that was most likely to sign Salah, if he were to leave Liverpool, primarily because it is owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).

As such, Salah would get the monetary demands that he requires to join the club and Al Hilal are considered to be one of the more high-profile teams in the region.

Liverpool were never going to allow Salah to move in January because of how pivotal his role is in Slot's team and the ambitions that the side has in all competitions this season - lifting silverware, more specifically the Premier League.

However, if the Reds are unable to negotiate a contract extension agreement that Salah finds acceptable, then where his future lies is completely up in the air.

As much as it would be disappointing to see the Egyptian move on from European football, his legacy is already incredibly impressive, and there is little more he needs to achieve at Liverpool to be considered one of the club's greatest players of all time.

Whether he makes the move is yet to be confirmed, but reports in the region are more than confident that a deal has already been done.
