Salah, 32, has yet to reach an agreement with the club over a new contract with his current terms expiring in summer 2025.

Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal have been closely following Salah and are reportedly hoping to add him to the squad for their FIFA Club World Cup campaign in June.

Liverpool would like to extend Salah’s career at the club and the player is known to be keen to renew. Salah is already the club’s record earner, on a reported £350,000 per week.

With Liverpool facing renewals for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, the costs of new deals for all three will be stratospheric.

Liverpool can't compete with Saudi package

It’s known that any financial package in Saudi Arabia would blow the Reds’ best offer out of the water and the club’s best bet to convince Salah to stay is potential success under Arne Slot.

Salah is a key part of the jigsaw at Anfield with his side looking good to claim their first Premier League crown since 2020.

And now it’s been revealed that the club and player REMAIN in discussions over a new deal. James Pearce of the Athletic writes that if it comes down to money then Liverpool will not be able to compete with the riches on offer in Saudi Arabia.

He also suggests that Liverpool won’t go above and beyond to keep him.

“Discussions over an extension are ongoing,” he writes. “Liverpool want to keep him beyond his 33rd birthday in June but the financial package has to make sense for the club’s long-term interests.

“Increasingly, it seems Salah will be faced with a straight choice between signing a new deal at Anfield or heading for a club in the Saudi Pro League.

“Al Hilal would love to have him on board before the Club World Cup in June.
