It’s no secret that Mohamed Salah is the subject of increasingly strong transfer interest from Saudi Arabia.

Al Hilal seem to be growing increasingly confident of adding the 32-year-old to their ranks. And if reports from the Kingdom are to be believed, they would like to do so before the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off in June.

A world-record salary is said to be on the table for Salah, who has found contract negotiations with Liverpool to be fruitless to this point.

Out of contract in summer 2025, Salah would like a new deal and has wasted no opportunity to remind Liverpool that this represents his last season at the club.

Salah is Liverpool’s top earner but a renewal is looking unlikely as FSG and sporting director Richard Hughes haven’t been able to meet his demands.

The Egyptian King came close to moving to Al Ittihad in the summer of 2023 but the Reds ultimately backed out of a record-breaking deal.

But with Salah free to negotiate pre-contract terms with any potentially interested overseas clubs, FSG will be powerless to prevent him from leaving should he now choose to do so.

Al Hilal were in action on Thursday in the Saudi Pro League, hammering Al Fateh 9-0. After the game Jorge Jesus, the SPL giants’ head coach, was asked about transfer interest in Salah.

He admitted that a move in January was unlikely - owing to a lack of available foreign player slots - but added that Al Hilal would be looking at the possibility of adding international players in summer.

Saudi teams can have eight foreign players of any age and two more who are required to be 21 or under. Right now they only have one under-21 spot free and that is even allowing for Neymar, who is currently de-registered.

"We have an additional slot in the available list, which is for a player born in 2003 (under 21 years old),” he said according to Kooora.

“We are currently looking for a player in the wing position, and this is what we are looking for now. The current stage will not be for attracting international players, perhaps in the transfer period at the end of the season."

Al Hilal are also in the running to sign Darwin Nunez, with Anfield Watch revealing their initial £70m approach fell short.
