Anfield Watch exclusively revealed exploratory talks way back in November, though progress did pause after that. Liverpool have spent the subsequent months weighing up a move for the Hungary international - and most reports claim they're settled on Kerkez.

He is, after all, one of the world's most promising left-backs. Still only 21, the Bournemouth star has been a Premier League standout this season, scoring twice and laying on five assists for the Cherries.

Kerkez is a wonderfully progressive player, capable of creating chances, moving the team forward, and counter-attacking at pace. It all comes together to make him a really exciting successor to Andy Robertson.

But he's far from the only option for Liverpool. Now a new report claims there are those inside Anfield who feel one of those alternatives may be the better option.

Antonee Robinson vs Milos Kerkez

The Boot Room claims that there are many at Liverpool who view Antonee Robinson as a better option than Kerkez this summer. The Reds have been linked with the Fulham left-back for a long time now and there are once again claims floating around ahead of the transfer window.

The reasoning is simple: Kerkez is seen as having a high ceiling but Robinson is seen as the best left-back in the league. Liverpool could sign the latter and slot him right in.

Kerkez may need time to adapt and there's a bit of risk when you're paying for potential. Enough that Liverpool may end up paying for a finished article in Robinson.

Now, we're not sure that's likely. Liverpool rarely, if ever, pay for players at Robinson's age. He turns 28 in August, meaning you're looking at a couple of years before trying to find a new left-back.

And we imagine the best option in two years will be Kerkez, quite honestly.

Liverpool also still have Andy Robertson in the squad, meaning there's no immediate need for Kerkez to be brilliant from the off. The club can be patient with him, certainly for another year.

Robertson hasn't been perfect this season but he's still the starting left-back for the league champions. Liverpool can afford one more season with him as a serious option if Kerkez is developing alongside him.

So even if some at Liverpool view Robinson as the best option this summer, we just don't see how he's the sensible one. Kerkez is still the favourite to arrive, and rightly so.
