Michael Edwards has reportedly taken charge of Liverpool's major transfer pursuit. The Reds aren't messing around.

Is this going to be the biggest summer in Liverpool's history? It might just be, given what they're putting at risk.

The Reds are certain that there's a lot more to come from Arne Slot. They want to give him a squad built especially for him, rather than asking him to work with one built for Jurgen Klopp.

Of course, he's somehow managed to take a squad built for someone else to the Premier League title. That was confirmed on Sunday and completed a miraculous debut campaign.

But there's more to come. Liverpool are going to sign several players for the first-team this summer in what's an absolutely gigantic ask of Richard Hughes.

The Reds' sporting director had it fairly easy last summer, with the Reds opting to stick with what they've got. That won't be the case this time around.

But he's certainly not doing all of this alone. Michael Edwards will even take charge of one pursuit, it seems.

Liverpool's new striker

Spanish outlet AS claims Michael Edwards is leading the charge for the Reds' new no.9. This comes as part of a report that Darwin Nunez will leave the club.

Liverpool certainly are on the lookout for a new striker. Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro have all been linked - the latter in the same AS piece.

Though, we're unsure that Edwards is genuinely leading the charge on this one. It would seem quite strange if he were as this is exactly what Hughes has been hired to do.

He's supposed to fix these squad issues and lead the pursuit of top targets. It's entirely possible that Liverpool want Edwards' experience for such an important piece of the puzzle but it feels unlikely.

What's certainly true is that it's vital Liverpool get this one right. The Reds aren't just chasing a new striker but someone who can ease the pressure on Mo Salah and, hopefully, take over as the leading light in the attack as the Egyptian sees out this two-year contract.

Whoever is leading the charge on this one, it will be one of the biggest transfers they've ever made. Maybe even the biggest.
