Liverpool Transfer News: Michael Edwards could FINALLY sign the forward he wanted for five years
Things are going very well for Liverpool at the moment, but that doesn't mean Michael Edwards and his recruitment team are not exploring ways to further bolster Arne Slot's squad.
Alongside the club's sporting director, Richard Hughes, Edwards will be on a mission to bring in further reinforcements and one of the key areas where Liverpool will look to bring in more depth is probably the no.9 position.

Diogo Jota has proven to be injury prone in his time at Anfield so far. Meanwhile, Darwin Nunez has struggled with inconsistency and hasn't lived up to the hype that many hoped he would fulfil when he first arrived at the club.
It has meant Slot has often opted to playing Luis Diaz in an unorthodox no.9 role. But long-term Liverpool need to bring in another centre-forward, who is not only reliable in front of goal but who is also reliable when it comes to availability.
And there's one player who the club have had on their radar for more than five years now who Edwards now has a golden chance to sign.
Why Liverpool have a golden chance to sign Victor Osimhen
Osimhen first appeared on Liverpool's radar when he was in Belgium at Charleroi. He then caught the eye during his time at Lille when the Daily Express reported that Liverpool were very keen on his signature back in 2019.
In the end, Osimhen ended up moving to Napoli from Lille, through a very tactical approach which saw the Nigerian forward locked away in his hotel room to block him from signing for the Reds.
That was a decision made by Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli according to Giandomenico Costi, who worked with Giuntoli at Napoli. Costi lifted the lid on Osimhen’s move to Naples in an interview last year.
He told Italian outlet Tuttosport (via Liverpool Echo): “The signing of Osimhen is Giuntoli’s biggest masterpiece.
“He [Osimhen] was locked in a hotel for three days. Giuntoli knew Liverpool were interested, and Jurgen Klopp had made his move, but Cristiano spoke to Osimhen in the hotel for three days until he convinced him to accept Napoli.
Liverpool failed to land Osimhen back then but have retained interest in his services ever since. He was even linked with a move to the Reds this summer.
And after five years perhaps 2025 could be the year Liverpool will finally be able to bring the forward to the club.
Osimhen has fallen out with Napoli's directors and that led to having to be forced to be moved to Turkey at the end of the summer transfer window.
But that was only on loan and Osimhen is still technically contracted to Napoli until his loan spell expires at the end of the season.
That's when he is likely to be moving on from the Italian giants, and that is when Liverpool could make their move.
Fichajes reports that he has a €75m buyout clause at Napoli which is around £62m and that's relatively cheap considering we are talking about a forward who has been banging in goals for sun in Serie A and now catching the eye at Galatasaray as well with 17 goal contributions in 15 matches so far.
At that price you would struggle to find a forward of Osimhen's ilk in the prime of his career. If Edwards still wanted to bring him to Anfield this would be his best chance to get him.
