Liverpool are watching a very exciting left-back who could be Andy Robertson’s successor at Anfield. Maxim De Cuyper appears to have what it takes.

Nieuwsblad claims Liverpool are one of a host of clubs looking at Club Brugge left-back Maxim De Cuyper. The 23-year-old has just signed a new contract - but that's unlikely to completely put off the Reds.

Brugge moved to tie De Cuyper down for longer after Betis, Sevilla, Marseille, Ajax and Wolfsburg all made 'attempts' to sign him in recent times. In fact, this is his second new contract in as many years.

It's needed, though. Interest in the player continues to grow, with Arsenal mentioned alongside Liverpool as keeping tabs on De Cuyper. While a transfer may not happen this summer, he's unquestionably one to watch.

Liverpool watch De Cuyper

De Cuyper has been a huge hit for Brugge. He's arguably the most productive left-back playing outside the top five European leagues and few in those leagues can match his output.

Seven assists from full-back last season came after six the season before. They're the kind of numbers you rarely saw - before Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson clicked into gear, anyway.

And it's that output that makes De Cuyper a possible replacement for Robertson down the line. The Belgian is involved in creating 4.2 shots per 90 minutes, which puts him in the 99th percentile for full-backs outside the top five leagues.

He's in at least the 94th percentile for just about every creative stat, in fact, and plays over seven progressive passes per 90. That's an incredible figure for a non-Liverpool full-back (98th percentile) and you can add that to the fact that De Cuyper averages over two touches in the opposition penalty area.

In other words, he's an incredibly versatile, attacking full-back and one Liverpool fans may hear more of down the line. Replacing Robertson will be incredibly difficult - but De Cuyper may be capable.
