It’s no secret that Liverpool are hoping to add a new forward in the upcoming transfer window.

The club have been linked with high-quality options such as Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro, with doubts persisting over the long-term futures of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez.

Neither has convinced Arne Slot during his first season in charge, which is likely to end in a Premier League title victory for the Reds.

Another player who is well-established on the radar is Wolves frontman Matheus Cunha, who recently signed a new contract extension at Molineux until 2029.

The move was designed to protect the club in the event that the Brazil international was sold in the upcoming transfer window, with a £62.5 million release clause written into the deal.

Arne Slot is a confirmed fan of Cunha, singing the 25-year-old’s praises when he scored against Liverpool at Anfield in February. Overall, this season he’s got 14 goals and four assists in 28 Premier League games.

Matheus Cunha release clause set at ÂŁ62.5m

Not exactly a line leader, Cunha is more comfortable roving in behind - either as a support striker or drifting to the left side of the attack.

The release clause has been set tantalisingly low, especially considering the asking price for others such as Ekitike and Isak has reached €100m plus.

And any deal for Cunha could become even better value if the latest report in the Telegraph is to be believed.

According to the paper, Wolves would accept the fee in instalments, meaning any potentially interested clubs could reduce the outlay paid all at once this summer.

Wolves ready to accept staggered payments for Cunha

“Cunha, 25, has a release clause of £62.5 million written into the contract extension he signed with Wolves in February,” it states.

“It is understood that Wolves would be open to a split payment for Cunha, who they signed for £44 million from Atlético Madrid two years ago following a successful loan spell at Molineux.”

The report specifically makes reference to Manchester United and their interest in Cunha. Paying in instalments would be a necessity for Ruben Amorim’s side, considering how close they are to breaching PSR limits.

But this is a deal that Liverpool should seriously consider given the conditions on offer.

Slot has previously described Cunha as “quality” and surely the appeal of playing Champions League football for the league winners appeals more than Man Utd.

Let’s get this one over the line, Richard Hughes.
