Liverpool transfer news: INCREDIBLE goal brings £70m deal closer
Liverpool reportedly want to sign Marcus Thuram from Inter. The striker has given them yet another reason to get the deal done, too.
Reports in Italy have consistently claimed that Liverpool want to sign Marcus Thuram. Gazzetta dello Sport is one of those making that claim.
EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool all in on SENSATIONAL €60m Spanish midfielder
And £70m would be the price. Liverpool would get a striker in fantastic form for that money, with Inter's financial situation making a deal somewhat possible.
Of course, they don't want to sell and would still command a massive fee - but they're unlikely to match Liverpool's wages for the Frenchman. If the Reds decide to push forward on a deal.
That's the big question. As we've mentioned before, a deal would break Liverpool's transfer policy regarding age.
Thuram is now 27 and will be nearly 28 by the time any deal happens. Liverpool are reluctant to pay big fees for players with only a few years left in their prime.
But then, not many 27-year-olds are playing as well as Thuram.
Marcus Thuram is thriving
What a season Thuram is having. He's got five goals in his last four games, scoring in all of them. He's up to 12 goals and three assists across 16 Serie A fixtures.
And some of his efforts are truly magnificent. On Monday evening, for instance, Thuram found the scoresheet in style, producing exactly the kind of emphatic finish that Liverpool would love to have.
That's about as confident a strike as you'll see all season. Thuram beats the goalkeeper at the near post from outside the box with ridiculous power and precision - and wouldn't Liverpool be better off with that?
Honestly, there would be no doubt about the Reds pursuing a deal if Thuram were two or three years younger. He's in brilliant form and producing exactly what Liverpool are lacking from a striker right now.
But at 27, there's a big question mark. We're not convinced that Richard Hughes are co. will pursue the deal at that £70m price tag, though a goal like this certainly brings a transfer closer to reality.
We'll just have to wait and see. If Thuram keeps this form up, he could well force Liverpool into an almighty risk.
