Liverpool deal for Marc Guehi takes MASSIVE step forward
Liverpool got the ball rolling on a centre-back shakeup last week. First came the news that the Reds were seeking a deal with Bayer Leverkusen over Jarell Quansah.
The club remain optimistic of landing a deal north of £30m for the homegrown defender - which could then be ploughed into new purchases.

And shortly after came the news that Liverpool had their eye on Marc Guehi. This would be a sensational transfer; Liverpool are not going to find better value in the market.

Guehi, 24, is captain of a Premier League club in Crystal Palace. He is also a veteran of over 150 games at the top-flight level. Moreover, the Ivorian-born stopper is probably England’s best centre-back at present and has won 23 caps to date.
Guehi talks to commence soon
Given his contract expires in 2026, sporting director Richard Hughes can conduct some so-called opportunistic business for the former Chelsea man.
And according to the latest report in TEAMtalk, a deal for Guehi is edging closer. Since Liverpool announced their interest in the central defender, talks are reported to have begun between the Reds and Guehi.
An outline of a deal is close to being agreed - states the report - and negotiations with Palace will soon start.
“Liverpool are very close to reaching an agreement with the player on personal terms,” reads a report. “Contacts between Liverpool and Palace are expected to start soon.”
Guehi has only one year left on his deal
Palace have let Guehi’s deal run towards its final 12 months meaning they will have to compromise on the fee.
Having rejected a £70m+ approach from Tottenham in January for their skipper, the FA Cup holders would now settle for a reported fee of £40m to £45m.
That would be incredible business for Liverpool should they get it over the line - with the bulk of the money covered by Quansah’s impending deal with Leverkusen.

Liverpool need to bulk out their defensive options. Not only is Quansah leaving but Joe Gomez could also be made available. And let’s see what happens with Ibrahima Konate - who is out of contract in 2026 with no breakthrough as yet over a new deal.
