Liverpool are taking Manchester City's Premier League title. Now they want to grab their star signing, too.

Liverpool beat Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday to take a giant leap forward in the Premier League title race. Of course, Pep Guardiola's team have been out of that race for some time but Arsenal's defeat to West Ham United gave Liverpool a chance to move closer.

They did just that, with Mo Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai getting a goal and an assist each. City, who have won the title for the last four seasons, will now almost certainly see it head back to Anfield.

It's been a magic season under Arne Slot, who has helped move Liverpool up a gear on last season. Miraculously, he did it without a single major signing.

This is still Jurgen Klopp's squad, really, but with Joel Matip and Thiago gone. What Slot has done here is simply incredible but Liverpool won't make him do it again next year.

The Reds will make major signings in 2025 and it appears one of the biggest they're targeting is also one of City's. First the title, then their signing.

Liverpool want Florian Wirtz

The Daily Mail claims Liverpool are 'keen' on signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer. The playmaker signed a new contract with his club earlier this season but he's not off the table for clubs.

Liverpool, City and Real Madrid all want Wirtz. The latter, though, may struggle to persuade him to join given Jude Bellingham plays an awfully similar role for them.

But Wirtz could well be Liverpool's major signing of 2025 - if they can move ahead of Man City in their pursuit. The Reds should feel more confident of doing that than at any other point in recent times.

They did persuade Virgil van Dijk back in 2017 ahead of his eventual move in 2018. They'll be hoping a Premier League title win - and potentially more to come - could swing things similarly with Wirtz.

So here's a way to hit City with a second massive blow. Wirtz would be their star signing this summer - but he's also be that for Liverpool.

Get this one over the line and it will truly feel like a major power shift in English football.
