Liverpool’s need for midfield reinforcements is no less profound heading into the summer transfer window with Ryan Gravenberch struggling with the workload.

Head coach Arne Slot clearly isn’t convinced by Wataru Endo or Tyler Morton in the defensive midfield position and the club have subsequently been linked with several No6 contenders in the market.

Liverpool compete with City on Rovella

The latest name in the frame is Italy international Nicolo Rovella. The 23-year-old is an all-action figure in Lazio’s midfield and recently made the breakthrough to Luciano Spalletti’s national squad.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Rovella is considered a “reliable” and “promising” midfielder who appeals to both Manchester City and the Reds. It’s even claimed that Premier League sides made attempts to land Rovella in January, according to the report.

“It is very likely that some Premier League teams that had already made an approach in January will try to raise the stakes to bring home a reliable and promising midfielder,” the report reads.

“He seems intent on staying in the team that launched him, but it is known that the prestige of teams like Manchester City or Liverpool could shake even the player most devoted to their colors.”

Will Lazio cash in on Rovella?

Rovella is currently coming to the conclusion of an initial two-year loan spell from parent club Juventus, with Lazio holding an obligation to buy the schemer at the end of the season.

It remains to be seen whether the Rome-based outfit will decide to cash in immediately considering the scale of Rovella’s rise this season.

He’s played 33 matches in all competitions for Marco Baroni’s side this term and has impressed with the consistency of his performances.
