Liverpool transfer news: Man United serve up ELECTRIC £33m star on a plate
Liverpool are ready to pounce after being given a free run at one of their key transfer targets. Manchester United have served him up on a plate.
Liverpool could well be in the market for a right-back very soon. Trent Alexander-Arnold's future is a massive amount of doubt, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
EXCLUSIVE: Virgil van Dijk is STAYING at Liverpool
He can formally agree on terms with a non-English club from January 1st. Real Madrid want him to do just that - they've heavily linked with the right-back.
Should Alexander-Arnold move on, Liverpool will want a new right-back. Now, they've got Conor Bradley, of course, who looked like a sensational player against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
It really does feel like he's the future there. Though, Liverpool aren't likely to rely entirely on the 21-year-old - they'd want competition for places if Alexander-Arnold leaves next year.
And thanks to Manchester United, their big target might be very, very available.
Liverpool want Frimpong
Christian Falk is adamant that Liverpool want Jeremie Frimpong and are eyeing him up. He's given that information to both Bild and Caught Offside now.
The latter is particularly interesting. Falk makes it very clear that there's a release clause here for the Reds and, more importantly, their key rival for the player is no longer in the race.
“Liverpool are looking at Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong – and it’s because of Trent Alexander-Arnold,” says Falk.
“If he agrees a move to Real Madrid, they’re going to need a new top right-back. One of the fullbacks on the list is Frimpong. He’s playing very well at Leverkusen and was on the list at Manchester United back when Erik ten Hag was manager. Now United have Noussair Mazraoui, so this connection to United isn’t so close.
“Liverpool see that he’d be a really good option and it’s worth noting that Frimpong has a release clause in his contract worth about €40m, so they can just go ahead and buy him if they wish.”
As simple as that.
Whether Liverpool do make their move remains to be seen, of course. A transfer for Frimpong only makes any sense at all if Alexander-Arnold departs.
Some may argue it doesn't even make sense then. Frimpong is a very, very attacking wing-back and not necessarily what Liverpool want back there.
At the same time, Frimpong is effective and at £33m, potentially a bargain. This is certainly one to watch.
