Mainz have joined the race to sign Liverpool youngster Owen Beck with multiple other Bundesliga clubs interested too.

DaveOCKOP has revealed on X that Mainz are interested in signing the 22-year-old, joining a number of Bundesliga teams as well as QPR who are “extremely keen” on securing a loan deal for the left-back.

Beck, who is the great-nephew of Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorer Ian Rush, impressed last season on loan at Dundee FC and Liverpool are looking to loan him out again.

The Welshman was recalled in January as Liverpool experienced a mini injury crisis but only played seven minutes before returning to Dundee on loan for the remainder of the season.

Beck’s future

After he was recalled in January, both Celtic and Rangers enquired about signing him, but a move never materialised.

Now, Liverpool are looking to send Beck out on loan once more to allow him to get regular minutes and develop more by playing first-team football.

Football Insider have also reported that Celtic are still interested in Beck, but that the Scottish champions want to sign him on a permanent basis. If Beck were to move away permanently, the same report claims that Liverpool have set a £3 million asking price for his signature.

Liverpool’s left-back depth

Liverpool have an array of options at left-back. Andy Robertson, who has played almost 300 games for Liverpool, is the clear first choice but Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas are both able to fill in for the Scotland captain when he is unavailable.

Gomez has been linked with a move away though and reports are now emerging that Tsimikas could be on his way back to Greece so Liverpool could be short of left-back options if Beck were to leave too.

A new recruit at left-back has been rumoured but nothing concrete has materialised and some of the centre back options that Liverpool had been linked with earlier in the window, such as Gonçalo Inácio, are also capable of deputising at left-back.

Liverpool are yet to make a signing this summer but a new addition wouldn’t be a necessity if just Beck were to leave, either on loan or permanently. Beck has only made three senior appearances for Liverpool and, despite his high ceiling, a replacement signing wouldn’t be required.

Calvin Ramsey, Rhys Williams, Luke Chambers and Lewis Koumas are among the players already out on loan from Liverpool and a number of other young talents are expected to depart Anfield for the rest of the season before the transfer window ends.
