Liverpool are facing transfer uncertainty around several of their first-team stars. Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the season with plenty of interest in their services.

But it’s not only the contract trio who are in demand. The likes of Alisson Becker, Ibrahima Konate and Darwin Nunez have also been associated with a move away from Anfield.

There is also scrutiny on Luis Diaz, owing to a contract wrangle that doesn’t appear any closer to being sorted. Having signed from Porto in January 2022 for around £37.5 million, the winger remains on the same deal he agreed back then.

Unusually for a Liverpool first-team star, has wasn’t offered a renewal on fresh terms and is currently due to expire in summer 2027.

EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool’s insane contract offer to Mo Salah

Diaz, 28, would like a pay rise to reflect his status in the team and it’s believed he rakes in around £55,000 per week which is far beneath the usual benchmark for a senior player at the club.

Barca talking to Diaz

But there has been no agreement over a new deal and that means the clock is ticking down on Diaz’s Liverpool career. The Reds will have to sell sooner rather than later in order to maximise Diaz’s transfer fee.

In just under two years he will be entitled to discuss a lucrative free transfer and Liverpool will end up losing him for nothing. This summer could be a good time to sell and teams such as Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have been linked with his signature.

Barca sporting director Deco sees Diaz as the ideal candidate to occupy a problematic left-wing position and it’s now been claimed that Diaz’s entourage is in talks with the Catalans.

Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra dismisses claims that Diaz has been offered to Barcelona, however, but does go on to confirm dialogue between the two parties.

No deal close

“From Luis Díaz's circle (28) they deny that the Colombian has been offered to Barcelona,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “They confirm that they have had dialogue due to the interest of the 'culés' since 2023.

EXCLUSIVE: The Arne Slot protege READY to join Liverpool

“His future will depend on his renewal (or not) with Liverpool.”

So that sums up the situation with Diaz. His future depends on a contract renewal with Liverpool which, at the moment, doesn’t look like it’s coming.
