Luis Diaz has reportedly rejected a new contract offer at Liverpool. Now he's set for a big change.

Luis Diaz has been Liverpool's best non-Egyptian player at times this season, with some incredible efforts for the Reds. While he's fallen just shy of being undroppable, Arne Slot has relied on the Colombian quite heavily.

Certainly, this is his best run with the club since those first five or so months in 2022. But therein lies the problem.

Liverpool never actually gave Diaz a pay-boost after his arrival. He remains on that initial contract singed three years ago.

It's unusual. The Reds typically sign players on relatively low wages but with incentives that make them quickly sign new deals that boost their pay.

Essentially, good form is rewarded. But Diaz has been hit-and-miss for so long that he's never had that new contract.

And that makes an exit somewhat justified from his point of view. Diaz is on around £40k per week, which is about a third of Cody Gakpo's reported salary, for some perspective.

Luis Diaz rejects contract

Liverpool have tried to correct this by offering Diaz a new contract this year. However, reports suggest he's rejected it.

Diaz doesn't like what the Reds are offering him and clearly feels he's earned a bigger contract. Will Liverpool ultimately agree? That's hard to say.

There have long been links to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, after all. Diaz may prefer to play there if Liverpool won't give him the money he wants.

But things could change. Especially after new developments at Anfield.

Kvaratskhelia changes everything

Liverpool are in the race for Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, according to reports. The Reds like the Georgian and if Napoli are open to selling, they'll get involved.

But it does raise some immediate questions. For one, where would he play? Liverpool are well-stocked on the left wing, with Diaz and Cody Gakpo thriving there this season.

Perhaps the key is Darwin Nunez. Anfield Watch exclusively revealed this week that he's of interest to the Saudi Pro League and the Uruguayan isn't against the idea.

Selling Nunez would free up a spot in the middle - one that's increasingly looked like Diaz's this season. It appears Liverpool are looking to change his position from primarily a left-winger to a centre-forward.

Kvaratskhelia would then get more time to compete on the left, while Diaz would get an opportunity to prove a new usefulness to Liverpool. One that could well earn him the contract he wants.

Honestly, this could end up being a series of wins for everyone involved. Big changes like this are rare in a contending team - but wouldn't everyone agree they're changes for the better?
