Liverpool have laid down the law to Luis Diaz in the wake of failed contract talks. The Colombian wants a move.

What an interesting season for Luis Diaz. He started the campaign on fire, scoring every week, before going through a bit of a dry spell.

Last week, though, he terrorised Tottenham Hotspur in a Player of the Match performance. Once again, he looks like one of the Reds' stars.

It does sum up Diaz's time at Liverpool a bit. He's had moments where he looked like a superstar followed by spells where he doesn't look up to it.

That's largely why the Colombian remains on his initial deal at Liverpool. The club typically signs players on lower contracts and then rewards them for good form.

Diaz, though, has never had that 'reward'. Contract talks with the Reds reportedly failed recently, too, and now his future is in doubt.

Sort of.

Liverpool tell Luis Diaz 'no'

Caught Offside reports that Liverpool have told Luis Diaz that they won't let him leave in January. That's despite the interest from elsewhere.

Diaz would like a transfer to Barcelona, who do want to sign him (though, financial issues make it enormously difficult). Liverpool have no intention of accepting any offers, however.

And that's despite the contract talks failing. It appears that Diaz, who supposedly wants around £150k per week in a new deal, will have to remain on his current terms at least until the summer - if he doesn't accept what Liverpool are offering.

Of course, Diaz could end up with the contract he desires by forcing Liverpool's hand through continued good form. Do that and the Reds will feel they don't have a choice but to increase their offer.
