It was all part of the Reds' new drive in strategy in order to create future stars for the first team.

In previous years the like of Harvey Elliott, Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah have benefitted from this process and this time around players like Ben Doak, Lewis Koumas and Owen Beck are following suit.

But it's not just them, there's another exciting young prospect catching the eye in Scotland as well.

Luca Stephenson confirms exciting future plans with Liverpool

Liverpool's very versatile Luca Stephenson is currently out on loan at Dundee United in Scotland's top tier where he is catching the eye with some impressive performances.

Recently, he was described as 'outstanding' by his club manager for his performances on the pitch in an interview with The Courier.

Stephenson, who can play as a midfielder but who can also drop back to plays as defender has been mostly used as a right-back at Dundee and has five goal contributions in 14 matches so far.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Stephenson revealed he is looking to replicate the success of Owen Beck, who also had a very fruitful loan spell in Scotland last season before moving to Blackburn Rovers.

“Yeah, look you've seen how well he [Owen Beck] did last year (in terms of goals and assists). I think it's a massive part of his game," Stephenson said when he was asked about whether his goal is to follow in the footsteps of his Liverpool teammate.

“It gets you out there with goals and assists," he continued.

"You can have a six, seven out of ten game but you had a couple of assists in there and you had a goal in there and it kind of gets you in the limelight and at the front of people's attention. I think that was massive in terms of what Owen did last year.

"He had steady games but he adds that goal and that assist and it’s what pushes you to the front of people's minds. If you have somebody who can give you a six out of ten every week and add goals and add assists from wing backs, full backs, wherever it's going to be it's going to be massive for the manager going forward.

"When he went back to Liverpool the manager's going to see him and say ‘a left-back scoring goals in the Scottish Premiership, it's massive’ He got recalled for Liverpool in January, played a couple of games for the first team and then came back out. It would have helped him that he was scoring goals and picking up assists that he could go back and play.”

These are exciting plans from the young Liverpool full-back. Clearly he is looking to make an impact in the final third of the pitch which will be music to the ears of Arne Slot.

It's also really nice to see that Stephenson is still aiming high and looking to repeat Beck's formula not just in the way the Blackburn loanee was able to get goals and assists but also in the sense that he was able to make his debut for Liverpool's first team.

Stephenson has a long way to go until then, but he did get a taste of first team action in pre-season with Slot and that has clearly whetted his appetite for more.
