As such, the Reds need a new player to take on the role, but there is a lot of pressure on their impending decision. After all, Nunez set the club back €85m only to fail to deliver.

Newcastle's Alexander Isak is the primary target given his reliability in front of goal, but he comes with a massive price tag.

Brighton's Joao Pedro is also set to cost over £100m, so many have pivoted their attention to Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike, but an update on his situation may have just changed Liverpool's outlook on him as well.

Delap is the most feasible target for Liverpool

As it has become increasingly clear to the club that a new striker is necessary, a shortlist has slowly been handcrafted with potential options.

Isak and Pedro were the first targets, followed by Ekitike, alongside Victor Osimhen at Galatasaray and Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting, before Liam Delap was added to the list.

The Ipswich star isn't necessarily any less impressive than the other targets, but the club's search has been thorough to avoid making any mistakes.

Most recently, Ekitike had assumed the position as fans' No. 1 preference given his age, 22-years-old, and his performances in the Bundesliga and the Europa League this season.

Across 41 appearances, he has 20 goals and eight assists, and his price tag was around £70m, so a substantial amount cheaper than Isak and Pedro. It looked like a perfect match.

However, a recent update from Bild claims that €80m for the Frenchman will not be enough, with their intel suggesting that Frankfurt will look to charge around €95-100m - a fee that could put him out of Liverpool's reach.

It could be suggested that if Liverpool were going to outlay such a substantial fee, then Isak would be a more viable option. But the more money involved, the greater the risk you face.

As such, the Reds really only have one safe option - Liam Delap.

As mentioned earlier, by no means should Delap be looked at as an afterthought.

The 22-year-old English striker is a phenomenal talent, having delivered 12 goals and two assists for Ipswich in the Premier League this season.

It's only been a few seasons since he graduated from Manchester City's academy, but he's already demonstrated he has all the attributes to be a top striker at a big club.

Furthermore, he will be available this summer with a release clause of just £30m, if Ipswich get relegated, and it should only be a matter of time until their return to the Championship is confirmed, as they sit 14 points short of Wolves in 17th.

At such a low price, the Reds will have to fight tooth and nail for his signature, but Liverpool find themselves just a few games away from being crowned Premier League champions, so who better to join than Slot's title-winning team?
