Liverpool have an advantage in the race to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. Can they take advantage?

Liverpool like the look of Liam Delap right now - but who doesn't? The Ipswich Town striker has been brilliant this season, scoring consistently for a team that's struggled for goals.

And in his first top-flight season, too.

That has teams lining up for him, naturally. Liverpool are one of them but there's a factor that's creating a bit of a frenzy for Delap: his price.

Relegation for Ipswich triggers a release clause in the striker's contract. He'll be free to leave for ÂŁ30m, per the Guardian.

ÂŁ30m for a homegrown striker who can hold his own in the Premier League. It's potentially a bargain and it shouldn't shock anyone that Liverpool are involved here.

They even hold an advantage in the transfer battle.

Liverpool and Liam Delap

The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle United want to sign Delap this summer but they've got a major Alexander Isak-shaped obstacle. The Ipswich man is hesitant to move there with such an established striker at the club.

Enter Liverpool, then, who have no such problem!

We actually think both Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota could leave this summer. It's pretty much guaranteed that at least one of them will.

The Reds want to rebuild their attack with an overhaul after this season. Neither of their centre-forward options have managed to consistently deliver under Arne Slot and it's time to move on.

It's a situation that could see two strikers arrive in the summer and Delap is firmly on the list of possibilities. The Reds have an advantage, certainly over the likes of Newcastle, in that he'd be free to earn his place without any established forward in front of him.

Now, that doesn't mean there wouldn't be competition for a starting spot and we don't believe Delap would be the sole signing. But he'll face that competition no matter where he goes this summer.

At Liverpool, though, there is a gap in the team that needs filling. Delap would have as good an opportunity at Anfield to stake his claim as anywhere else that could sign him.

It's incredibly rare that such an opportunity exists at the (surely) reigning champions. Here's a once-in-a-lifetime chance for Delap then - let's see if he takes it.
