Arne Slot tells Liverpool to track Levi Colwill for last-minute transfer

Arne Slot has asked Liverpool to track a Chelsea start for what could be a last-gasp transfer next week. The Reds are yet to sign anyone.

GiveMeSport claims Arne Slot has asked Liverpool to watch Chelsea's Levi Colwill ahead of next week. The transfer window doesn't have long to run, but the Reds could find themselves doing some last-gasp business.

That's because Joe Gomez has an uncertain future. Anfield Watch exclusively revealed months ago that Gomez could leave Liverpool this summer, and the defender was left out of the squad to face Ipswich Town last weekend as he considered his future.

This upcoming week is the big one, then, as it's Gomez's last chance to get a 'full' season with a new club. If he left, though, it may well spark Liverpool into action.

There have been links to Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, but he would be incredibly expensive. The 24-year-old would also want a regular first-XI place alongside Virgil van Dijk and while we'd love to have Guehi at Anfield, it's not an easy deal to make happen.

But GMS understand that Arne Slot has three different targets in mind. The most spectacular is Colwill, who is one of the best young defenders in the country right now. Any transfer there would depend on Chelsea wanting to do business but fortunately, it's Chelsea - they are literally always willing to make a transfer happen.

Two other players make the 'shortlist'. There's Bayer Leverkusen's Piero Hincapie, as well as RB Leipzig's Mohamed Simakan. Both have been linked with Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool like Levi Colwill

Colwill, even with Chelsea's willingness to talk about any player on earth, wouldn't be an easy transfer. He signed a six-year contract just a year ago and the 21-year-old certainly has a role at Stamford Bridge this summer.

The likelihood of Gomez leaving next week is also up in the air. There are zero strong links with anyone, and Slot didn't exactly make it sound like he's on the brink of an exit when discussing the player on Friday.

There's a long, long way to go before Liverpool could actually sign Colwill, then.
