Liverpool open talks for Martin Zubimendi alternative
Liverpool are set for a landmark summer in the transfer market. Although Arne Slot is about to steer his side to a first Premier League title since 2020, the Reds are not about to rest on their laurels.
Club bosses including sporting director Richard Hughes are eyeing upgrades across the squad. No position will be spared with changes afoot from the goalkeeping department all the way to the strikers.

One area which was earmarked for attention last summer was central midfield. The club spent a long, fruitless transfer window chasing Martin Zubimendi, who opted to remain at Real Sociedad despite his €60 million release clause being met.

Slot has persisted with Ryan Gravenberch in the No6 position instead, with Tyler Morton and Wataru Endo failing to convince the head coach that they can start Premier League matches on a regular basis.
As such, Liverpool have been tipped to go back into the market for reinforcements in the position this summer, with Joao Gomes of Wolves and Angelo Stiller of Stuttgart among the names linked.
Liverpool enquire over Rovella
Over the past few weeks a new option has emerged however in the shape of Italy international Nicolo Rovella. The 23-year-old is an all-action midfielder for Lazio, who he joined from Juventus in 2023.
Rovella is on a loan with an obligation to buy at the Stadio Olimpico and depending on how the season ends for Lazio he could well be on the move again.
It’s been reported by Gazzetta dello Sport that budgetary decisions will need to be taken into account if Lazio fail to qualify for the Champions League and that Rovella could be among the players put up for sale.
Moreover, the report adds that Liverpool and Arsenal have made enquiries over the midfielder, with a view to adding him to the ranks this summer.
