Liverpool Transfer News: Reds to battle title rivals after watching La Liga prodigy

Liverpool will have to fend off interest from title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal this summer should they make a move for Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

The Reds may have to search for a new stopper come the end of the season with Adrian's expiring contract unlikely to be renewed and doubts regarding Caoimhin Kelleher's future.

Kelleher has been an able deputy for the Reds this season amid Alisson's numerous injuries and he has actually started more games than the Brazilian this term.

However, given his largely impressive displays, there are suggestions that he may not want to continue as a number two to Alisson, potentially opening the door for a summer exit.

If that were to be the case, then Liverpool may need to sign two goalkeepers this summer, although preferences may depend on which manager replaces Jurgen Klopp come the end of the campaign.

LIVERPOOL HAVE SCOUTED 21-YEAR-OLD LA LIGA ACE

According to Graeme Bailey and HITC, Liverpool are one of five Premier League sides who are keen on signing 21-year-old Villarreal prodigy Jorgensen, with the Reds having watched him closely during his stellar breakout season.

The Denmark U21 international has started all but one La Liga game for Villarreal this season, impressing with his displays for the mid-table side.

The Reds are said to be keen on the 6'3 ace, although they will have to fend off interest from title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City, as well as fellow Premier League sides Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.

Villarreal tied Jorgensen down to a new deal in November 2022, with his contract now expiring in 2027.

Jorgensen averages 4.1 saves per 90 this season - the most in La Liga - but he has also conceded the most goals (52) of any goalkeeper, with Villarreal having the third worst defence in the division.

The fact that he has attracted such interest and gained such plaudits despite his team's defensive woes suggests that he is one of the bright sparks in a difficult campaign for the Spanish side.
