Liverpool have taken an early win in the race to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Things are moving rapidly in this one.

News broke on Thursday evening that Liverpool had inserted themselves in the race for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Napoli star is heavily linked with a move away - and it could happen this month.

In fact, Liverpool are interested in getting involved this month. It's something of a surprise, given their plethora of wingers but it appears the Reds see this is a real opportunity to sign a top player.

Of course, Napoli need to be open to selling first. Maybe Federico Chiesa could help with that.

And make no mistake - this is a race for Kvaratskhelia. Paris Saint-Germain are eager to sign him, while Manchester United and Chelsea are also linked.

But it really does seem Liverpool might have the upper hand here. Certainly, PSG are struggling to keep up.

Liverpool's early win

It really does appear that PSG are going to bow out of this one quickly. First, there are reports that they can't actually compete financially for the player.

And now multiple claims suggest they've picked out an alternative. Fabrice Hawkins and Pipe Sierra both suggest Jhon Duran is now a target as PSG's chances of signing Kvaratskhelia diminish.

That would push Liverpool into pole position here. Kvaratskhelia is almost certainly too expensive for Manchester United right now, while Chelsea have a bloated squad as it is.

Not to mention that the Reds are in a much strong position as a team than both of their rivals. Their pulling power should be above the pair (though, we've thought that before only to be proven incorrect...).

But all of this is an early win for Liverpool. PSG felt like the major rival but there are now serious questions over their ability to sign the Georgian.

And the Reds could use that to swoop in and get a major signing. Watch this space.
