Manu Koné has been offered to Liverpool after asking to leave Borussia Monchengladbach.

HITC are reporting that Koné has been offered to a number of English clubs and could be available for as little as £20 million.

Liverpool’s interest in Koné dates back to last summer when Jörg Schmadtke held the position of Liverpool’s sporting director.

Links between Liverpool and the 23-year-old Frenchman have not disappeared since Richard Hughes joined the club.

Would Koné be a good fit at Liverpool?

Liverpool’s need for a defensive midfielder has been discussed a lot this summer and therefore its clear to see why Koné has been linked.

The former Toulouse man is currently part of France’s squad at the Olympics but has been hampered by injury over the past two seasons, missing almost 200 days with injuries in that time.

After a season in which Monchengladbach finished 14th, only one point above the relegation play off place, it is clear why the Frenchman is looking for a fresh start.

Are Liverpool interested?

Liverpool are reportedly looking to sign a new number 6, with Slot’s faith in Wataru Endō unclear and alternatives like Tyler Morton and Stefan Bajčetić untested at the top level.

Despite this, there has been no confirmation that Koné is on Liverpool’s list of potential targets, and although he may have been offered to Richard Hughes and Arne Slot, there is no indication yet as to whether the potential £20 million deal is one they are keen on.

The other clubs named by HITC include Tottenham, Manchester United and Fulham, with AC Milan also interested.

Koné has garnered interest from across Europe and so a move away from Germany is likely but a move to Liverpool doesn’t appear to be imminent.

If the Red’s search for a new defensive midfielder isn’t fruitful over the next few weeks then Manu Koné could be a player Liverpool turn their interest to.
