Julian Alvarez has sent a timely message to Liverpool as he has emerged on Richard Hughes' radar once again.

The Argentine forward was a revelation for the club's arch rivals, Manchester City for many years. In 2022/23, he pretty much completed football when he won the World Cup, Champions League and the Premier League in a stellar season.

But despite his brilliant contribution for Argentine and City, he was available last summer and the Reds tried to bring him to Anfield as revealed exclusively by Anfield Watch.

The move didn't come to fruition with the two sides unable to come to an agreement. However, Alvarez has remained on Liverpool's radar and Hughes has him on his shortlist of no.9s to target in the summer transfer window.

The club's sporting director knows Liverpool are in need to a refresh when it comes to the attacking positions and Alvarez could be the perfect option for the club.

He's brilliant in every sense of the word and actually fits Arne Slot's style of play. And on Friday night as Argentina faced Uruguay he also sent Hughes a timely message of his quality.

Julian Alvarez sends Liverpool come and get me plea

It was a tight and hotly contested affair between Argentina and Uruguay on Friday night, with the game being played in the early hours of Saturday morning UK time.

With the World Cup qualification on the line both teams wanted to get a good result. Uruguay were the home side and Darwin Nunez led the line for them but the Liverpool forward only disappointed.

He completed just nine passes in the game and didn't even manage a shot at goal nor did he create any chances for his teammates.

Admittedly, chances were limited in this game with just 18 shots combined from the two teams. Both sides were defensively resolute but Darwin's performance will only further expose why he cannot be the Reds' future no.9.

In juxtaposition to that, Alvarez showed just why he is the right option to replace Nunez.

Despite this being a tight game, Alvarez shone and made the difference for Argentine. He created the most chances on the pitch (five) and also completed the most dribbles (3).

When it came down to the crucial moment in the game, it was also Alvarez who provided the assist to Thiago Almada for Argentine's breakthrough and ultimate winner.

Nunez was substituted in the 72 minutes when Uruguay were chasing the game and trying to find an equaliser.

Alvarez stayed on the pitch for a little longer and in the end it was his pass that led to Argentina taking all three points from Montevideo.

This was the ultimate come and get me plea from the Atletico Madrid forward. Arne Slot wants a striker who can be very fluid. He doesn't always need to be the goal-scorer but he needs to make the difference when it matters.

Alvarez showed on Friday night he can be that player. Hughes must now do everything to bring him to Anfield and make sure the Reds do not miss out on him again.
