Liverpool are facing a contract crisis with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold all out of contract in summer 2025.

No breakthrough has yet been reached over a new deal with any one of Liverpool’s star players with all three now entitled to speak to overseas clubs about a pre-contract agreement.

It’s an incredibly worrying time for Liverpool fans as they contemplate having to replace three mainstays of the Jurgen Klopp era.

Plenty of names have been linked and it could prove to be a very expensive process in putting in place a succession plan for the trio.

However there is an opportunity to take advantage of contract chaos elsewhere in order to cushion the blow of potentially losing star players.

Kimmich promises decision soon

Alexander-Arnold, 26, appears the biggest doubt with Real Madrid going for him in the January transfer window and expected to make contact directly over a summer deal.

Losing Trent would be a formidable blow as his recent goals against West Ham and Accrington Stanley have affirmed. His playmaking capabilities from right-back are irreplaceable and his absence would leave a gaping hole in the Liverpool squad.

However, Joshua Kimmich is in a very similar predicament to Alexander-Arnold over at Bayern Munich. The Bavarians have allowed the 29-year-old terms to elapse and he too is entitled to speak to overseas clubs about a move in summer 2025.

The German international has been credited as a Liverpool target and he could potentially add extra star quality in the midfield given his versatility.

Bayern were back in action over the weekend as they beat Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga and Kimmich was again queried over his future.

“I spoke to the club. I won't put too much pressure on myself. But of course there has to be a decision in the coming months,” he told Sky Sports.

“Of course there are many good reasons to extend. I have to consider it all and decide.”

It appears as though Kimmich is open to staying at Bayern but if there is any possibility of the Reds getting the deal done then they should pounce on it.
