Liverpool have been tipped to ‘threaten’ Bayern Munich for one of their star players.

Like the Reds, the German record champions have several top earners coming to the ends of their contracts in summer 2025.

Leroy Sane and Alphonso Davies are among those with expiring deals and Bayern are not yet in a position to announce renewals for that pair.

Another star performer - Joshua Kimmich - is also out of contract at the end of the season and his future in Bavaria is looking increasingly uncertain. Liverpool have been named in the German media as one of the sides to ‘threaten’ Bayern for Kimmich, with the Bundesliga side keen on tying the 29-year-old to a renewed deal.

It’s even been reported that Liverpool have opened talks with the Germany captain’s entourage over a high-profile free transfer.

“Bayern are also threatened with a free transfer for Joshua Kimmich in the summer,” a report in TZ reveals. “His contract is also running out and FCB has not yet been able to reach an extension.

Liverpool in contact for Kimmich

“As tz has learned, Liverpool FC is among those interested in the captain of the German national team," the report continued.

“According to reports, initial informal talks have already taken place. But nothing is concrete yet.”

Kimmich earns a reported €20 million per annum at the Allianz Arena and would be coming to Anfield as cover for both Trent Alexander-Arnold - should he move to Real Madrid - as well as in midfield.

Arne Slot is in need of extra midfielders due to the strain put on Ryan Gravenberch and Kimmich is a world-class performer in both positions.

Kimmich has been at Bayern for a decade, winning multiple Bundesliga honours as well as the Champions League in 2020. He has been involved in a contract standoff with club officials for many months with Bayern rumoured to have given the player an ultimatum over signing a new deal.

However, just like Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, Bayern’s contract wrangles linger on.
