Bayern Munich have set conditions for Joshua Kimmich if he’s to sign a new contract. They’re conditions that will surely see the Liverpool target move.

Sport Bild reports that Bayern Munich have given Joshua Kimmich conditions over a new contract. The German has under one year left on his contract now, meaning he can agree to a free transfer as soon as January 1st.

Kimmich is still open to renewing is contract but Bayern aren't going to make it easy. They're set key conditions over a new deal and they're conditions that almost certainly prevent an agreement.

For one, Bayern need Kimmich to drastically reduce his salary. He's currently earning around £17m a year but would have to cut that by at least a quarter in any new contract.

It's very difficult to believe that Kimmich would do that, given the offers he'd receive on an open market. He may even receive bigger offers than that this summer if Bayern decide to sell.

And they will surely do just that.

Liverpool want Kimmich

There have been tentative reports over the last six months that Liverpool want Kimmich. He does feel like a natural fit, admittedly - a vastly experienced player who's just about still in his prime.

If he is leaving Bayern, then a cut-price summer deal could be an outstanding one. Liverpool are supposedly considering just that, with reports in Italy suggesting they pulled out of a move for Teun Koopmeiners because they're now chasing Kimmich.

But it's worth considering Liverpool's wage structure right now. Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all going to be in major contract talks this summer - the Reds can't exactly afford to sign another player on massive wages before they've negotiated with the trio.

That gives us pause on Kimmich. It certainly doesn't rule out a move, but it's one Liverpool may need to be patient on.
