Liverpool’s contract situation has been one of the key storylines from this season so far for the club.

Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk all being out of contract at the end of the season has put Liverpool in the unique situation of having to negotiate deals with three of their best players - and arguably the three best in their position in the entire world.

You’d be forgiven for feeling a bit sorry for the club higher-ups who are having to navigate such an awkward scenario (admittedly one of their own making).

But, as it turns out, they are not all that alone in the world of football.

Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich is also out of contract at the end of the season and it seems the German giants are very afraid that he will leave.

According to Florian Plettenberg on X, formerly Twitter, Bayern are “demanding a clear indication” from Kimmich about his future by “the beginning of January”.

Kimmich could be Liverpool-bound

He states that the club are very keen to extend Kimmich’s contract, understandably, but “Kimmich has yet to make a definitive decision”.

And while this is all too relatable for Liverpool fans, they are yet to issue a public ultimatum for their out-of-contract stars.

And this may just allow Liverpool to take advantage.

As reported earlier in the year, Liverpool were favourites to sign for Kimmich’s signature, with him preferring to go to one of the title-contending teams in England or Spain.

Liverpool are actively seeking cover in their defensive midfield position. Ryan Gravenberch is an all-world calibre player right now, but any injury or suspension worries for the Dutchman would put the Reds in an awkward position.

The club are actively seeking Martin Zubimendi’s services, but the opportunity to sign Kimmich on a free is one any club in the world would jump at. The German international has been one of the best midfielders in the world for nearly a decade now, controlling play with his second-to-none passing.

His metronomic nature would suit Arne Slot’s system well in progressing the ball to the wide areas to attack from. It is one of the most exciting rumours Liverpool have been involved with in some time.
