Liverpool could well require a new centre forward in the transfer windows ahead.

Head coach Arne Slot has been rotating the options at his disposal thus far this season with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota alternating duties.

However, Nunez has not always been in the best of form under Slot while Jota is currently out injured.

That meant Luis Diaz taking over the No.9 slot during the midweek Champions League victory against Bayer Leverkusen and he repaid Slot’s faith with a hat-trick.

Jonathan David in SENSATIONAL form

Jota has struggled to stay fit throughout his time at Anfield while it’s been reported that the Reds could well listen to offers for Nunez.

Add in the impending contract expiry of Mohamed Salah and it’s clear that Liverpool could well have a new strike line in their future.

One named linked in the last few transfer windows has been Jonathan David. The 24-year-old Canadian has been in SENSATIONAL form for Lille this season, scoring four times in four matches in the Champions League.

Strikes against Madrid, Atleti and Juve

He has netted strikes against both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid as well as midweek against Juventus. David has also hit seven goals in 10 Ligue 1 matches, leading to speculation about a move to a top European club next summer.

Previously valued at around €60 million, the asking price is dropping rapidly as David is out of contract in 2025. There is reportedly a clamour for his signature with Arsenal and Manchester United among the Premier League elites and Juventus all reported to be interested.

Juve make offer to Lille

The latest news from Italy claims that Juve are planning to sign David in January, thereby earning a fee for Lille, before leaving him on loan at the French side until the end of the season. This is due to Juve’s need to free up a non-EU squad place to accommodate the Canada international and may be seen as an attractive offer for his current club side.

That deal would depend on David’s receptiveness to a move to Serie A, especially when weighed up against the best that the Premier League has to offer. Sporting director Richard Hughes claimed last summer that the Reds would be looking at ‘opportunistic’ transfers and clinching the signing of an in-form hotshot at the peak of his powers would certainly fit the bill.

However, David’s wages are not going to be cheap considering the level of interest in his signature and it remains to be seen whether the Reds will opt to compete for his signing.
