Liverpool can have LaLiga star for €50m

Liverpool are chasing midfield reinforcements in 2025 having failed to recruit any player in the position last summer.

Although the Reds liked Martin Zubimendi - and reached his €60 million Real Sociedad release clause - the Spain international declined the move to Anfield.

That scuppered the Reds’ midfield refit but links are once again beginning to emerge.

Anfield Watch has told you that Liverpool scouts love Nico Gonzalez at FC Porto and also admire Samuele Ricci at Torino.

Spaniard Gonzalez could be a viable option as it’s been reported that Barcelona have turned down the chance to use their buyback option.

Ricci, meanwhile, signed a new contract with Torino last week but the club could soon find themselves entertaining bids.

Johnny Cardoso available for €50m

Another player who has emerged on the radar is USA international Johnny Cardoso.

Although an American international, Johnny lived in Brazil from the time he was a baby, eventually featuring for Internacional before striking out for Europe. The 23-year-old moved to Real Betis in January 2024 but already looks set for the next step in his career.

Anfield Watch revealed Liverpool’s admiration for Johnny earlier this week, news that was followed by reports of interest elsewhere from other clubs. Gol Digital is now claiming Johnny “has attracted interest from multiple clubs”.

It reiterates Liverpool’s interest and adds Tottenham among the interested parties with Spurs holding one advantage over the Reds at this stage.

The London side are reported to have negotiated a first-refusal deal for Johnny when they sold Giovani Lo Celso to Betis. Atletico Madrid are also known to be keen.

Betis want Bajcetic

The USMNT midfielder is reported to have a €80 million release clause in his Betis contract but the Andalusian club are said to be ready to accept €50m for their star attraction.

And Liverpool could have a trump card up their sleeve for Betis. Stefan Bajcetic is admired by Manuel Pellegrini’s side and is facing an uncertain future even though he’s still on loan at Red Bull Salzburg.

Betis cannot move for a replacement until Johnny is sold and there is the chance that Bajcetic joins on loan if Liverpool end up making the purchase. The Reds could opt to add in a purchase clause should a deal with Betis be done.
