What we all do know, though, is that he can. It's up to Salah, really - if he wants to depart and join another club, he's entirely free to do so.

He can also agree to such a move this month, even if the forward can't actually join until July 1st. Salah's future is firmly up in the air - and Liverpool have got to work with that in mind.

That means looking for potential replacements. One glaring issue with the squad right now is that Salah is the only natural right-winger.

Harvey Elliott is more and more a midfielder, while Ben Doak is out on loan. No one else is particularly comfortable on that side, even if they 'can do a job' on the right flank.

But that highlights a bigger problem. Even if Salah does re-sign with Liverpool, the club doesn't actually have a successor in mind.

And with Salah turning 33 in the summer, the Reds do need a replacement - even just for times when the Egyptian needs resting. They might have found one.

Liverpool like Johan Bakayoko

Het Belang van Limburg reports that Liverpool are one of a few Premier League clubs actively looking at Johan Bakayoko. The PSV Eindhoven winger has been linked with the Reds a good few times over the last year.

That was largely because his form last season was so good. Bakayoko scored 12 and assisted nine as PSV ran away with the Eredivisie title ahead of Arne Slot's Feyenoord.

Now, his form this season has not been as good - six goals and two assists by New Year's Day. Still, Bakayoko doesn't turn 22 until April and is still very much a prospect.

And he's one who Liverpool may well see as a long-term successor for Salah. The price is set at around £37m, too, which could end up being a bargain.

Liverpool paid a similar amount to get Cody Gakpo, after all, who also shone at PSV. And it's under half of what Manchester United paid for Antony, a similarly exciting young winger out of the Netherlands.

This could be one to watch, then, as Liverpool plan for life after Salah. Whether that's 2025 or otherwise.
