Door opens for Liverpool to sign PERFECT Martin Zubimendi alternative
Arne Slot has impressed since he took charge of Liverpool before the start of the season, guiding the Reds to top of the Premier League table.
Despite their impressive impact to Liverpool’s on-pitch performance, the new regime at Anfield – headed by Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes and Slot – have left a lot to be desired in the transfer market.

The Reds identified Martin Zubimendi as their number one target in the summer, but when the Spaniard decided to stay in his homeland Liverpool failed to sign an alternative.
Ryan Gravenberch has stepped up admirably since but there is still a lack of depth at the base of Liverpool’s midfield, and the door could open for the Reds to make the perfect signing.
Joao Gomes targeted by Liverpool
According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are now targeting a move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, and a deal could be on if the West Midlands based side can’t avoid the drop.
The report states that the door could open for Hughes to make a move to sign Gomes as financial worries at the Molineux may force Wolves to sell if they are relegated to the Championship.
In the report, Gomes is described as the “perfect signing” for the Reds as his age, ability on the ball, creativity, and tough-tackling style “fits the profile [Liverpool] have been looking for.”
It is also stated that “any deal for the Brazilian’s signature is not expected to take place this month as he remains a key player for Vitor Pereira’s side in their fight against relegation.”
Would Joao Gomes be a good signing for Liverpool?
Ryan Gravenberch has undoubtedly proven himself as one of the best midfielders in the league this season but expecting him to play every minute of the season is unrealistic.
There are question marks over the future of the Reds two current backup options, Wataru Endo and Tyler Morton, and so a move for midfield reinforcements may be necessary.
At only 23-years-old Gomes is an exciting option for any team looking to bolster their midfield and could fit nicely into Slot’s plans for next season.
Wolves only remain out of the relegation zone because of their ‘goals scored’, having the exact same points and goal difference as Ipswich, and relegation is a real possibility for the side - meaning a Liverpool summer swoop for Gomes could be on the cards.
