Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong has said a transfer to Liverpool 'would be great', amid speculation over a summer move.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a standout campaign in 2023/24 to date, scoring seven times and registering six assists for Xabi Alonso's unbeaten side.

Previous reports have suggested the Netherlands international and former Manchester City academy star is on Liverpool's radar ahead of the summer.

A number of other top European sides have been linked, while Frimpong's reputation has only grown in recent weeks, with back-to-back goals in his last two outings.

The wing back scored the winner in Leverkusen's 2-1 win over Heidenheim on Saturday as Leverkusen equalled a German record, while he bagged the third in his side's eye-catching 3-0 victory against title rivals Bayern Munich the week prior.

Frimpong is under contract in Germany until 2028, but is seemingly open to a move away before that.

Speaking to Ziggo Sport in the Netherlands, as quoted by Soccer News, the young defender was asked about potential interest from Liverpool and did nothing to dispel the rumours.

He is reported to have said: "Liverpool? Great club, with history. That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring.”

Frimpong is not the only Leverkusen man linked with the Reds.

Anfield Watch understands Liverpool were knocked back in a January enquiry for left-sided defender Piero Hincapie, while a recent report has claimed that scouts have been watching the club's attacking talisman Florian Wirtz.

Leverkusen boss Alonso, of course, remains the leading candidate to take over from Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season, while the club's sporting director Simon Rolfes has also been named as of interest by one report, at least.

Meanwhile, Tim Steidten, currently at West Ham but formerly at Leverkusen, is another name in the frame for the sporting director position.
