Liverpool headed into the January transfer window with plenty of issues to sort.

Not least the contract situations around Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. With all three out of contract in summer 2025, there has yet to be a breakthrough in negotiations between the players and the club.

Described as the priority of sporting director Richard Hughes, Liverpool are no closer to securing the futures of perhaps their three most important players. But aside from the contracts, there are still vital decisions to be made.

Liverpool loaned out several players at the start of the season and they have already made the decision to bring Calvin Ramsay back from Wigan. It is expected the Scottish defender will find another loan club elsewhere before the end of the window.

Doubt also surrounds Stefan Bajcetic, with the midfielder dropping hints that his time at Red Bull Salzburg was coming to an end. However, he ended up playing in their winter friendly against Bayern Munich on Monday.

What becomes of Ben Doak this January remains to be seen with Ipswich and Crystal Palace both fighting for his signature. Liverpool value the winger at £30m and so the Premier League duo are going to have to up their bids before any decision is taken.

Marcelo Pitaluga, meanwhile, has joined Fluminense on a permanent deal.

Morton and Danns loan deals possible

A couple of players who spent the first half of the season in and around the Liverpool picture are now looking likely to move on loan this winter.

While Tyler Morton has got interest from Hull and Sheffield United, the future of Jayden Danns is also up in the air.

Injury scuppered a loan move to Plymouth last summer but now the Championship strugglers along with Cardiff City are back at the table.

That’s according to journalist Darren Witcoop, who states both sides have made enquiries to Liverpool about Danns’ availability.

Cardiff and Plymouth enquire for Danns

“Loan interest in Liverpool’s Tyler Morton and Jayden Danns,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Decision yet to be made over their futures.

“Sheffield United among admirers of Morton while Plymouth & Cardiff enquired over Danns’ availability. Strong competition should they get green light.”

Arne Slot reportedly sees the homegrown striker as a viable first-team option but first-team football would be a welcome development for the 18-year-old before the end of the season.

It will spark an almighty transfer clamour if the Reds decide to let Danns out on loan with his pedigree well established. He’s already played - and scored - for the Reds’ first team and is an EFL Cup winner having played in the final against Chelsea last year.
